Pre-paid Funerals & Pre-arranged Funerals
There are many reasons why pre-planning or pre-paying for a funeral is beneficial and there are a number of options you can look into when thinking about planning for your funeral.
Pre-planning your funeral, with the help of a funeral director, ensures your wishes are carried out and your family is not put under any unnecessary stress during an already distressing time. You do not have to pre-pay your funeral in order to pre-plan. You can simply let your wishes be known to your funeral director and they will be recorded and carried out when the time comes.

'Peace of Mind'
Putting money into a Pre-paid Funeral Plan will make it easier for your family to concentrate on the grieving process rather than worry about the cost. Generally an upfront deposit is paid to go towards the cost of the service. If a lump sum is paid into the plan and the full amount is not required for the funeral expenses, the difference plus any interest accrued is paid back to your estate.
We have available, through the Public Trust, a pre-paid funeral fund to allow people to plan and pay for their funeral in advance. A pre-paid funeral plan allows you to set aside some money in a specially created trust which is accessed when the time comes to pay funeral expenses. Like writing a Will, or taking out Life Insurance, a pre-paid funeral plan is a positive step toward planning for the future.
With a pre-paid funeral plan, you can:
* help ease the financial burden of a funeral for your family
* have your money protected by a government guarantee
* have up to $10,000 exempt from asset testing for a Residential Care Subsidy
You can start a Public Trust Pre-pay Funeral Plan with $3,000, or more if you like. You can add lump sums or make regular contributions at any time.
